2016 Report to Our Employees

A message from our leadership

Norton Healthcare experienced several milestone events in 2016. Stephen A. Williams, our longtime chief executive officer, retired at the end of the year. While we certainly will miss Steve, we are thankful for his years of dedicated service and the legacy he leaves behind. And, we are happy that he now can spend more time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

 

In 2016, we asked for your help in creating Norton Healthcare’s new three-year strategic plan. We asked you to think about the patients and guests you see, talk with and listen to every day, and consider what it takes for them to have a great experience. We asked you to look at your environment and work processes and suggest improvements that will result in the best care we can provide our patients and their families. The insight you provided was instrumental in the development of the 2017–2019 Norton Healthcare Strategic Plan. The plan is based on our pillars and built on the foundation of our mission, vision and values. It focuses on our goals of convenience, quality outcomes, patient safety and friendliness.

 

On Nov. 10, the children’s hospital that has been part of Norton Healthcare for nearly 50 years was officially renamed Norton Children’s Hospital. This was cause for celebration, as well as reflection on the hospital’s storied and remarkable history. We are grateful for the cooperation and enthusiasm you displayed in ensuring that the name change occurred so seamlessly. It appears that the community has embraced the new name, and this is due largely to your efforts.

 

The year also brought advances in all of Norton Healthcare’s major areas of service, expansion of our research and educational activities, and alignment with more primary and specialty care providers. Our total number of employees now exceeds 14,000.

 

This growth can be attributed to the dedication and compassion each of you brings to your job every day. It allows us to have more capacity to provide for the health care needs of the communities we serve.

 

This Report to Our Employees recognizes just a sampling of your co-workers for the extraordinary acts they performed in 2016. We recognize that countless more acts of caring and compassion occur at Norton Healthcare facilities every day. We wish we could list them all.
